Giant cell arteritis.

چکیده
Permanent, severe loss of vision is a feared complication; however, it is not the sole possible devastating outcome of giant cell arteritis. Myocardial infarction, ischemic stroke and limb gangrene may also occur. Thor acic aortic aneurysms are seen over 17 times more often in patients with giant cell arteritis than in age-matched controls. The optimal work-up includes erythrocyte sedimentation rate, C-reactive protein level and platelet count

Histopathologic Features of Giant Cell Arteritis in an Actinic Granuloma Lesion
The association between actinic granuloma and giant cell arteritis (temporal arteritis) has been claimed by some authors. There is a hypothesis that actinic radiation has the principal role in the etiology of both diseases in a similar way. Here, we report a case of actinic granuloma that had characteristic pathologic features of giant cell arteritis in histopathologic examination without clini...
متن کاملGiant cell temporal arteritis associated with overlying basal cell carcinoma: co-incidence or connection?
Giant cell arteritis is a granulomatous vasculitis of large and medium sized arteries manifesting as temporal arteritis and/or polymyalgia rheumatica. The histological assessment of temporal artery biopsies is frequently encountered in anatomical pathology and has important diagnostic consequences in patients clinically suspected of having giant cell arteritis. We present an intriguing case of ...
متن کاملGiant cell arteritis associated with chronic active Epstein-Barr virus infection.
Giant cell arteritis is an inflammatory vasculopathy that preferentially affects medium-sized and large arteries. A viral cause has been suspected but not confirmed in polymyalgia rheumatica and giant-cell arteritis. We report the case of a 81-year-old female who suffered from chronic active Epstein-Barr virus infection and developed giant cell temporal arteritis.
متن کاملGiant cell arteritis presenting as renal vasculitis.
Giant cell arteritis commonly presents with headache, polymyalgia, and visual signs and symptoms. Other neurological, respiratory or vascular symptoms occur in 10-30% of patients. It is extremely rare for giant cell arteritis to present initially with haematuria. Here we describe a case which presented with fever and haematuria, which emphasise the need to be vigilant about the diagnosis of gia...
متن کاملTonic pupil with giant cell arteritis.
A patient with giant cell arteritis and ischaemic optic neuropathy developed bilateral tonic pupils. This pupillary abnormality may result from ischaemia of the ciliary ganglia. Despite the propensity for patients with giant cell arteritis to develop vascular occlusions in the eye and orbit, tonic pupils have rarely been described, and several reasons for this are proposed. The arteries supplyi...
متن کاملGiant cell arteritis of the skin simulating erythema nodosum.
Cutaneous involvement in giant cell arteritis is quite uncommon. A patient is described who presented with pretibial skin lesions clinically indistinguishable from erythema nodosum which, on biopsy, showed subcutaneous pannicular giant cell vasculitis. Cutaneous manifestations of giant cell arteritis are subsequently reviewed.
